Fresh Food

Illustrations by Andrea Voros

I am Andrea Voros, an illustrator and surface pattern designer. I am originally from Hungary and am a forever traveler. I fell in love with Puerto Rico and spent 16 years on the island. From PR, I found myself in Florida, which allows me to make road trips often. Camping and traveling are my favorite things to do, which is why you can see cute animal characters in my portfolio. I also love food and exploring local cuisine everywhere I travel. As I began my illustrator career, it was natural for me to open my sketchbook and draw my favorite dishes and drinks. At the beginning of 2024, I started helping small business owners refresh their brands and products. However, I dream of partnering with more start-ups and well-established brands that want to transform my designs into their best-selling products. I'm influenced by retro textures and unusual bright color combos, which give my designs a unique vibe. Instagram / Website

Sandwiches handmade pop-up book exploration
by Jennifer Hines

Sandwiches: The Inside Story is a workable prototype model I created of an interactive illustrated book with paper-engineered and pop-up parts exploring sandwiches in a fun way. This project is a unique piece that tests different construction methods to create a playful 3D reading experience where you can open flaps, turn pages to pop up information, pull out additional elements from pockets, and interact with the piece to learn new information. The cover and each page, including the flaps and pop-up components, are fully illustrated and hand-made to convey all of the information and working paper engineering elements clearly. I made this book by hand on paper using pencil, ink, and watercolor. Additional materials used include digital illustrations hand-drawn in Procreate, inkjet prints, glue, and board. The final product is a fun and colorful interactive piece that sums up years of exploration and that I'm very proud of. Instagram / Website

Never Give Up!
by Lorraine Conway

I’m Lorraine Conway, the heart, soul, and hands behind City Girl Design Studio. Creating of any kind has always been a part of my life, just not professionally because . . . well. . . you know. Life happened. But I’m finally stepping out in courage to fulfill my lifelong dream. The creative switch got turned on way back when I was 16 at my first job at a sign shop where the smell of turpentine and paint and the feel of gold leaf hooked me for life. Textile art was my jam for many years and was the perfect segue into mixed-media collage, which has totally stolen my heart. In today’s hectic world, I take the slow route and create using traditional materials and make the papers I use in my collages, as there is nothing like the tactile feel of the products you’re working with. They come alive in your hands, and you must follow where they want to take you. This is what I call my analog world. But after decades of working in tech, I can’t deny the appeal of digital. I often meld my analog world with the digital world and use my art to create joyful, whimsical products for home and life. You’re unique, I’m unique, and the art and products in your home should reflect that and bring a smile to your face. If I achieve that, then my dream was worth the wait! Instagram / Website

The good life
by Pippa Hiscock

I'm Pippa, and I make illustrations and patterns using paper, scissors and glue in my home studio in Bristol. My colourful designs are inspired by nature, food, and vintage kitsch, with a bit of silliness thrown in. During my degree in Illustration, I experimented with photo collage, making paper objects, and printing illustrations onto clothing and wallpaper to tell the story. Since graduating in 2007, I have worked more and more with paper. I love the physicality it has, even after being scanned into the computer. The process of making with my hands is just as important to me as the end result. Using scissors, I start cutting and sticking to see what takes shape without drawing or measuring anything. This organic way of working often means the design develops as I go, sometimes turning out completely different from what I first imagined. When my full-time job went freelance a few years ago, I decided it was time to focus on my own designs and my own business. Ever since, I have been designing and selling products online and at markets, and I have developed a love for creating repeat patterns for fabric and homewares. My aim now is to pivot slightly and license my illustrations and pattern designs alongside selling my own products. Instagram / Website

❤️ Take care.

Today is International Long COVID Awareness Day.
There is no cure for Long COVID. The way to prevent Long COVID is to avoid getting COVID in the first place. Repeated infection increases your risk. Asymptomatic or "mild" COVID infections can still result in debilitating Long COVID. Wear a respirator in public spaces, use air HEPA filtration and good ventilation, and isolate when sick or potentially exposed. Be vaccinated.
