Today, I saw the first yellowy-green tips of crocuses poking through the dirt in the front yard of my studio. I planted hundreds of bulbs last fall, so I can't wait to see everything this spring. (Hopefully, it will all appear like magic!)
I hope you enjoy these springy submissions from UPPERCASE readers. I'll be back soon in April, with some content reveals from the new issue and the 6th Edition of the Surface Pattern Design Guide.
Submit your surface pattern design work to be featured in an upcoming newsletter or in UPPERCASE magazine.
The pattern above (intro image) represents a look into my newer process of creating more geometric shape-based patterns. My whole portfolio once consisted mainly of florals, but I am proud to be experimenting beyond those parameters. Instagram / Website
Spirits of the Valley by Tina Schofield
Above: Snowbell flowers have always looked like little ghosts to me. At the beginning of Spring, as they and all life start to bloom, I wanted to illustrate these sweet ghostly cottontail spirits as snowbell flowers blooming in the fields after the last snowfall of Winter. Below: Being a bunny mom of two, and being so active in the bunny community with rescue work, advocating, and education, I wanted to make something magical with these whimsical creatures I’ve come to love so much. These little floofs are ready to cutify your life with their celestial astrological whimsy. Instagram / Website
Spring! by Aline Doornhof
Spring is such a hopeful time of year, and that is revealed in my own garden with blue grape hyacinths, crocuses, anemones and, later on, alliums. Sometimes, though, spring is halted by sudden snow, which lays a thin layer across my garden. I love seeing the different prints of birds till they melt away again and early flowers peep through.
