What you need to know about B-School

B-School registration is closing soon.

(Although the countdown shows today, I've been informed that the doors will remain open through the weekend.)

To give you the briefest of summaries of what you'll learn in B-School, here are a few notes that I jotted down from the first lesson of each module. There are 4-7 lessons per module. (These are my own notes of what resonated with me, not AI-generated!)

Module 1: Profit Plan

  • What is it that you really want? What is your vision for success? What results?
  • Why do you want it? Why does this matter to you?
  • What is your purpose? What is your passion?
  • What difference will your business make in your life—and in the world?

Module 2: Irresistible Offerings

  • the best and most profitable products or offers start when you care about your customers—think about how you can help solve a problem or brighten the life of your ideal customer (rather than thinking about what you want as your primary focus.
  • value yourself! Don't undersell your worth. Be confident and respect yourself.
  • prune what doesn't work for you

Module 3: Modern Marketing

  • It's not your prospects' job to find you; it is your job to find them. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT! You can't sit around waiting for people to find you.
  • Money and marketing are neutral tools

Module 4: Content Strategy

  • sharing free content is the primary way that new people get to know you and your product/service before making a purchase
  • you don’t have to do it all!
  • marketing is for your business, you don’t have to be a full-time content creator! be strategic with your time and energy
  • share you you are and what you do and why — and how that helps your customer
  • #1 goal is to get people to subscribe to your email list then nurture them reliably and consistently and authentically
  • don’t build your business on rented property - build your list! make that your core pillar of your marketing strategy

Module 5: Traffic & Audience Growth

  • everyone starts with nothing!
  • you don’t need a huge number of newsletter subscribers to be successful
  • build a small but highly engaged list
  • care and nurture your readers!
  • every name on your list is a real individual human that deserves your care and respect
  • be grateful for every person on your list

Module 6: Marketing-Smart Technology

Be a decision-maker!

  • Don’t outsource your decision-making when it comes to technology—never create a site that you can’t make quick revisions to.
  • There’s not one single solution that will work for every business.
  • Learn! You don’t have to be an expert, but you should understand what each technology platform does.

My takeaway:

One of the more difficult shifts to make is to change your focus from what you can get out of your business (ie creative fulfillment, financial security, personal satisfaction, recognition from your peers, etc) to what your business can give to its customers. It is easy to stay in "me" mode rather than "them." But ultimately, it is your relationship with your customers that will determine your success, so it is very important to look at things from their perspective.

These shifts in thinking are some of the most impactful lessons you'll learn in B-School.
