Hello Reader,
Our world keeps on spinning—through conflict, division, destruction— and from one Tuesday newsletter to the next, I hardly know what to say. What I can do is acknowledge reality: climate change, war, genocide, threats to human rights, democracy and science, and an ongoing unmitigated pandemic.
It's too much, I agree. But we can't look away. We have to see.
You can't see what's going on without doing something about it.
At least that's my hope.
When others see you standing up for peace, human rights and the environment, they can follow your lead.
Create art. Express your values. Support fellow creatives. Make it worthwhile.
Take care of yourself, too. Returning to your own safe space of creativity and art is also necessary, taking time to replenish.
Don't ignore your job, business and personal responsibilities. Perhaps this is just my personality, but I feel better overall when taking care of my responsibilities as a parent, business owner and citizen. I recognize them as privileges. I am infinitely grateful to be able to homeschool my child. I love my business (even the challenges) because I get to publish beautiful and fulfilling magazines and books that readers appreciate. Bookkeeping, paying taxes, etc? All are necessary components in being a responsible citizen and contributing to society.
Eleven summers ago, I committed to sending my newsletter every Tuesday. Most Tuesdays, I don't know exactly what I'll be writing about until I begin. I just have to show up, do my best, and press send.
I know you can see my commitment.
I truly appreciate you being here.
