Hello Reader,
Today's the last day of newly released Sketchbook Revival sessions! You can still sign up for free and watch my session and others for a few more days. The option to upgrade to a VIP will be presented to you during that process. Once you're a VIP, you retain access to the videos and can watch them at your own pace.
I am grateful to Karen Abend for inviting me to be an instructor. The opportunity pushed me into new creative directions. It was a learning experience—presenting ideas and methods that you've never really seen from me before.
Some instructors can make their art and confidently talk about it as they go. Not me! So I created a video that suits my introverted personality. I'm only on camera at the start and end for an introduction and conclusion. I found a method of working that suits my quiet nature: just make something on my own and do the voiceover later.
Kind comments from participants have been reassuring about this approach: "I appreciated the calm and measured pace. It was both soothing and inspiring." And, "I especially loved that the video was as deliberate and meditative as the process itself." ❤️ I really did enjoy creating my session, and I would like to explore making more videos. For now, though, if you want to watch my "Text" Book session and get the 20-page download, it is only available through Sketchbook Revival.
Discovering unique ways of communicating, thinking, and doing is why we attend events like Sketchbook Revival or subscribe to magazines like UPPERCASE... to be inspired by others' creative processes is an invitation to explore our own.
I typed the message above while I was filming my session. I didn't plan it or compose it beforehand. Whether aided by a typewriter or simply writing your thoughts on paper, it just feels good.
In the week since I announced it, there has been so much enthusiasm for my next book, Jot!
The Jot book auditions are open through the end of the month. This is the content gathering and percolating stage of the book.
Meanwhile, I've started designing UPPERCASE magazine issue #70. (The pace doesn't let up when you publish a quarterly print magazine.) Today, the cover artist said "yes!" to my invitation, so that's always a happy milestone.
