Hello Reader,
The design of the next issue of UPPERCASE magazine is nearly complete! I've only got the cover pattern, Snippets, Abecedary and table of contents left to design for issue #70. It feels good to be close to done since this issue goes to the printer early next week. Then, while this issue is at the printer, I will transition back into Jot! book curating and writing.
I'm not ready to reveal any spoilers from the next issue, so I'm sharing Finley's creativity today. His art class assignment was to make a collage. Students could find an image and create a collage on top of it, which is an easy introduction to collage and the fun of finding just the right piece of paper or found image.
Here's his puffin collage, made from UPPERCASE magazine scraps, old National Geographic maps and a seed catalogue.
Glue, Volume G in the UPPERCASE Encyclopedia of Inspiration, was naturally on hand for reference! (Click here to look inside this 448-page colourful and uplifting volume all about collage.)
I have a couple of boxes worth of collage fodder I've been saving for years (from back when UPPERCASE was a gallery open to the public and I'd host creative workshops and also made notebooks containing vintage paper). It was so nice to see Finley find useful ephemera in there! ✂️ 😍 ❤️
That's it for now. Back to page design for me!
