It Started with One Stitch Quilts by Mary Mayne
Patchwork and quilting have been my passion since the early 1960s, and I have been a member of The Quilters Guild of The British Isles for many years, now an Honorary Member. I started my patchwork like most of us, very simple, very basic. But once I mastered the craft, I began to develop my own ideas and style. Eventually, I began giving workshops and talks about my work, including travelling to Canada and America a number of times. My work isn't just one style but covers a variety of what patchwork and appliqué offer. My work has been sold to many, and I have a quilt in The Postal Museum in London. I think one of the best things my career has done for me is meeting so many amazing people and making friends that will last a lifetime. My work has been featured in many books and magazines, projects and instructions printed in quilt magazines, and I have spoken about my work on the radio and TV. At the age of 86 years, I am now coming to the end of a career that has filled my time, given me so much joy, and, I hope, given pleasure to many. Instagram
Jean- Michel Basquiat x A Full English by Christopher English
Look at the super cool results of my sweatshirt upcycling workshop, inspired by Basquiat we used screen printing, vinyl, patches and beading to funk up old sweatshirts and breathe new life into them.
I am a retired historian and writer, grandmother and maker from Ontario, Canada. My ongoing project is an ode to the simple things that make daily life joyful: a fabric book that uses all the textiles and techniques I continue to learn. My topic is Carrots, whose roots are colourful, tasty and nutritious, whose tops are lush and green with a divine carroty fragrance, and whose flowers are the lovely Queen Anne’s Lace. The book is called About Carrots, and I have completed 8 pages in the style of small quilts. I gather inspiration and information from literature, science, art and my everyday environment. One of my pages is a hand-embroidered recipe for carrot salad, embellished with tiny appliqued bobbin-lace carrots. My next page will be a needle lace cross-section of a carrot root, depicting the cells and tissues that make it hardy and healthy.
