Can you collect inspiration like rain in a bucket?

Hello Reader,

A few hours ago, I hosted an Idea Session!

Since I'm simultaneously working on Jot and the next UPPERCASE, a lot of things are overlapping... happily, I am spending more time in my notebook and was able to use my doodles for the presentation today.

After the one-hour call, I spent 3 hours editing it into a nice package. I could have just let it be a zoom recording, but I thought the content merited a nicer treatment.

Why does editing video take so long?

Even if you're not planning on submitting to The Path to Inspiration open call, I hope you'll find the presentation interesting and, yes, even inspiring in some way!

The replay is available for all to watch on the submissions page until July 22, next to the details of The Path to Inspiration open call.

Members of the UPPERCASE Circle can watch the replay here (and access the companion PDF as well). UPPERCASE Circle members are also welcome to share their ideas and works in progress to further the discussion. If you want my feedback, use @Janine Vangool messaging in the network to get my attention on your post or comment. (Access to the UPPERCASE Circle is a bonus of being a paid print subscriber.)

Objectively, I spent waaaay too many hours on this presentation and subsequent video edit, but it was worth it. I stretched myself to try some new things, and even it took longer than I thought it would, I was learning along the way.

And that's a good creative path to be on, don't you think?

The newest issue, UPPERCASE #70 (July-Aug-Sept) is arriving in more eager hands this week! The circle theme is really catching readers' attention. Here's what Dorianne L. had to say today:

"This issue (70) is the very best yet. How you manage to pull together such an artistic, erudite, fascinating, and BIG magazine over and over again is mind boggling."

๐Ÿ˜Š I don't know how I pull it off each time either, there's always a trough of self-doubt mixed with editorial challenges and logistical headaches. But getting through those things makes each issue better in the end.

As always, I am grateful for your support of UPPERCASE magazine through subscriptions.

Thank you!

Todd Pattison and a roster of bookbinders have done some amazing things with the Glue book! "Ms. Vangool shared unbound copies of the book which were given to different binders who were tasked with creating unique covers based on the contents. The results are a variety of bindings using various covering materials, bookbinding structures and ornamentation techniques."

โค๏ธ Though wastewater data has recently shown a relative lower point in COVID transmission across North America, now is not the time to let down your guard. There has typically been another wave of illness in summer months. (There are COVID outbreak "hot spots" in some US states right now.)
โ€‹
It doesn't have to be that way. Wear a respirator! Clean the air. Stay up-to-date on vaccinations. Stay home if you're sick (and protect your household members from getting infected, too). It's as important as ever to take precautions against COVID infection.
โ€‹
If we all work together now at mitigating COVID when cases are lower, we can help prevent or at least blunt the impact of another rise in infections. That's why my colleagues and I at the World Health Network have been working on this campaign: Don't make waves!
