What's your creative path?

Hello Reader,

Today, I'm occupied with editing the articles for issue #71 (Oct-Nov-Dec). So, rather than break my focus too much, today's newsletter is a simple reminder:

The open calls The Path to Inspiration and From There to Here both close tomorrow, July 22, at 11:59 pm MDT. There will be no extensions on the deadline because this issue goes to the printer in mid-August.

The image above is Brianne Burnell's submission to The Path to Inspiration. She writes, "The path to inspiration is a series of threads, coming from many directions, overlapping with one another and picking up bits along the way. The strands converge to create artwork that could only be made with those specific colours and marks because of the million tiny collected moments and the way they choose to intermingle in my mind."

The map or diagram for your submission can be as abstract or literal as suits you. Creativity, originality, heartfelt personal narratives and genuine effort—that's what I look for.

I'm also accepting submissions for Sketchbook, Fresh, Creative Careers and Subscriber Studios for consideration in the next issue.

Thank you.

Pre-Order: Jot!

The creative necessity of ideas on paper
Mindfulness, meaning & methods

This uplifting volume will be about journaling, note-taking, sketching, book-making, handwriting, and other ways of jotting down our thoughts onto paper. We'll have profiles of artists, makers, writers and designers who share their creative process, as well as the people and companies who make the journals, notebooks and writing implements that are part of our daily lives. In a world pushing artificial intelligence, Jot! is a hands-on celebration of originality, inspiration and the beauty of ideas.

❤️ Though wastewater data has recently shown a relative lower point in COVID transmission across North America, now is not the time to let down your guard. There has typically been another wave of illness in summer months. (There are COVID outbreak "hot spots" in some US states right now.)

It doesn't have to be that way. Wear a respirator! Clean the air. Stay up-to-date on vaccinations. Stay home if you're sick (and protect your household members from getting infected, too). It's as important as ever to take precautions against COVID infection.

If we all work together now at mitigating COVID when cases are lower, we can help prevent or at least blunt the impact of another rise in infections. That's why my colleagues and I at the World Health Network have been working on this campaign: Don't make waves!
