I know it feels like the current issue (#70 July-Aug-Sept) is still inky fresh but the next UPPERCASE (#71 Oct-Nov-Dec) is nearly ready to send to the printer!
I am so excited for the next cover that I'm revealing it today... it's by UK artist and illustrator Helen Cann.
For those of you who were on my Path to Inspiration Idea Session live call at the end of June or watched the replay, you'll remember that I was gushing over Helen's illustrations and book, Hand Drawn Maps. I was curious about how she would interpret the theme—"Where and how do you find inspiration? If Inspiration were a place, draw a map or create a diagram about how to find it." Following the call I thought, why not reach out to Helen and simply ask her! The result is this glorious commissioned illustration for the cover of UPPERCASE #71.
Helen was wonderful to work with; we include some of her process sketches in this next issue as part of a 10-page feature. I will share more previews of this forthcoming issue in the weeks ahead. For now, click here to view a large version of the cover so that you can read all of Helen's hand-lettered words.
As I discussed in last week's newsletter, I have decided to reduce the print run with the intention of more copies of each edition going towards subscriptions instead of taking up space and expense in inventory storage. That's a reduction of 1,000 copies (10%), so a fairly significant volume when it comes to paper and physical space. Being considered and conscious of what we're producing, transporting and shipping feels important to me. I'm not publishing books to make more, more, more. Just enough, is enough.
As ever, please subscribe, renew or give a gift subscription— your support through subscriptions make the magazine possible.
The 50% off back issues sale continues in my shop. I am also giving away some inventory that is currently housed at my printer here in Canada. If you're a Canadian non-profit, school, educator, event or community group that could use multiple cartons of back issues (30 per carton), please be in touch via this form.
This message has been sent to a general list. If you've already pre-ordered Jot, thank you!!! If you're already an UPPERCASE print subscriber, thank you!!! (Please refer to your order receipts from shop@uppercasemagazine.com.)
100% of sales from Little U are donated to UNICEF for humanitarian aid in Gaza.
