This was the very first book published in the UPPERCASE Encyclopedia of Inspiration, in 2016. At 544 pages, it lives up to being an encyclopedic sourcebook with 850 vintage fabric swatches and author Linzee Kull McCray's in-depth research on the topic.
What's a feed sack? Feed sacks are the perfect example of a utilitarian product turned into something beautiful. This book explores the history of the humble feed sack, from a plain burlap or cotton sack to exuberantly patterned and colourful bags that were repurposed into frocks, aprons and quilts by thrifty housewives in the first half of the 20th century.
Through pre-orders, I am raising funds to reprint this book as it was originally designed with a decorative dust jacket and belly band like the other books in the UPPERCASE Encyclopedia of Inspiration series.
(Feed Sacks, without the dust jacket and band, was also released in 2019 by Martingale Publishing. They went out of business in 2023 and that version has also sold out.)
Given the uncertainty with tariffs, I haven't been promoting the preorder very much. So far, publications printed in Canada are exempt from tariffs placed on American customers ordering from Canada. They can also still purchase below the $800 threshold for tax-free shipments from Canada.
The preorder price is $70. The first 200 preorder customers will receive an authentic feed sack swatch with their book. The swatches are around 5" square—enough to get a feel for the feed sack material, appreciate the printed pattern, and feature the swatch in a sewn craft or quilt.
We're at 42% funded—the sooner we reach the goal, the sooner we can go to print! Let's see if we can get closer before the end of April.
Already have this book? Thank you so much! Please share this campaign with your friends who like what you like! If you purchased the Martingale copy that didn't include the dust jacket, you can download and print your own here. You are also welcome to download these designs for personal use in craft, scrapbooking, etc.

I'm busy with Glue! Later this month, I will unveil the list of participants along with some page previews. To give myself a little breathing room, I haven't set a specific publication date yet, but ideally, I would like it to be released in July/August.
